Coronavirus mental health support

Leading mental health support organisation, Beyond Blue, is delivering dedicated coronavirus mental wellbeing support through a new digital site coronavirus.beyondblue.org.au.

The service, offering information and support with mental challenges raised by the pandemic, is available around the clock. It includes online resources such as a forum, apps and advice on a range of subjects; coping with loneliness and self-isolation, dealing with job loss and financial worries and support for essential service workers and small businesses.

An important part of the support is a dedicated phone line to speak with a counsellor for specific advice. Trained mental health professionals can link callers to other services and information, including financial support or family violence support, as needed. They will also be able to make clinical referrals and escalate people to more intensive mental health care if required.

Beyond Blue has reported a 30 per cent increase in enquiries about COVID-19 over recent weeks. The new service is supported by $10 million from the Australian Government and a $5 million donation from Medibank. Beyond Blue’s existing mental health support service continues to operate alongside the new COVID-19 response service.
