Starting a Business workshop (on demand)
To kick off the series, when you sign up for the Business Kickstart Package we'll provide you with access to our on-demand Starting a Business workshop - giving you the chance to watch this two hour session at your own pace after the busy festive season.
In this workshop, you will learn about:
- essential licences and registrations
- your ABN, business name and GST registration
- introduction to business finance 101
- the value of the market and how you can access it
- understanding how to differentiate from your competition
Personalised check in (optional)
After you have signed up to kickstart your business, you can opt in to receive a free, personalised check in from one of our experienced, local business advisers to discuss your business idea and ask any questions you may have.
To opt in, make sure you select this option at the time of booking and provide your phone number.
Online interactive session – 9.30am to 10.30am on Saturday 20 January 2024
Get a live demonstration of the free small business resources introduced in the Starting a Business workshop, such as our range of free business templates, tools and guides and Business Licence Finder, in this interactive online session.
This is also your opportunity to ask any questions you have about the content covered in the Starting a Business workshop, with a cohort of your peers.
For those who can’t make it on the day, the session will be recorded and available on demand in your virtual event hub.
Business Planning workshop – 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday 3 February 2024
A business plan is an essential document that helps you clarify your thinking, set the tone and direction for your business and gain a deeper understanding of your target market.
In this workshop, you will be guided through the process of writing a business plan and will learn about:
- how a marketing plan fits into your business plan
- why you need a financial strategy
- how a SWOT analysis will help you identify your business opportunities
You will also get access to our free business planning template to help you on your way to kickstarting your business.
One to one business planning session
Once you've had time to formulate your business plan, you'll be invited to book in for a one to one session with an experienced SBDC business adviser. During this session, you can ask any questions you have to refine your business idea, seek tips on how to complete your plan or, if it's ready, discuss your draft business plan and receive feedback.
You can book this session at a day and time that suits you using our online booking portal, with the option to attend over the phone or via Microsoft Teams.

We'll send you a redeemable code to book into an SBDC workshop of your choice right up until 30 June 2024. You’ll also be able to access the recorded sessions from the Business Kickstart Package in the virtual event hub until this date.
